[Manado] Nyiur Restaurant

Its time for Manado food review! We arrived in Manado at noon, so we went directly for lunch. My auntie suggested this Nyiur place, I've never eaten there before, but my mom said yes immediately. She said that she was there once before, and the food were great.

I was starving that time (because the bread from the airplane was sucks), and thanks God, this restaurant have most of their dishes done, so all we have to do is pointing our finger to the food we wanted. So these are our selection:

Ayam Rica Rabe  (Shredded chicken with chilli seasoning)

Singkong Santan (Steamed Cassava with Coconut Milk Sauce)

Telor Cakalang Woku (Tuna Egg with Woku Sauce)

Popare Isi (Stuffed Pare)

Tumis Bunga Popaya ( Sauteed Papaya Flower)

Perkedel Jagung (Indonesian Crispy Corn Fritters)

Sate Ayam Rica (Spicy Chicken Satay)

Es Kacang Alpukat Duren
(Manado Style Shaved Ice with Red Bean, Durian,Avocado, and Chocolate Sauce)

I couldn't eat the vegetables, they were so bitter, but the adults love them. The tuna egg was wierd for my tastebud, and the woku sauce (it's Manado typical sauce) was too spicy. The corn fritters and shreeded chicken were nice, but for me, the highlight of the day was the Sate Ayam Rica. Even though i'm not into spiciness, i think the seasoning was delicious. I even came back there three days after our first visit for that satay. Oh, and the Es Kacang was a perfect dessert, although for mine, i didn't order it with durian and avocado.

[Manado] Novotel Resort, Manado

Happy Chinese New Year! I've just got back from our CNY trip to Manado. My mom was born in Manado, and most of her family still lived there, so we usually go to Manado once a year, either for CNY, Christmas, or any other occasion.

So first, I'd like to share about our hotel. We usually stay at my grandma's house, but it seems this year the house is full with our relatives, so we decided to stay in Novotel Resort, Manado. It's a 4 Star Resort located in Kayuwatu. The resort is far from the city center, but not too far from the house, so its pretty convenience to lived there.

Besides, this resort, in my opinion, is the best contemporary Architecture they had in Manado. The buildings in Manado usually is just an extruded square with some detail, they rarely play with the shape, but this resort has a tent shape in the centre of the building for their lobby, make it more interesting than the others.

The lobby was spacious and colorful, but still elegant. They had a borderless pool right after the lobby, with a comprehensive golf course view. And it's actually the best pool I've swum in Manado. The length, wide, and depth were just perfect for me. I swam almost everyday during our stay.

I didn't take any picture of our room. The room was standard, but definitely not the best in Manado. I've never stayed in a five star hotel in Manado, but for the four star class, Swissbel Hotel in Maleosan had better room.

So that was my review for Novotel Resort, Manado. So far Novotel and Swissbel are my favourite in town. And btw, the food review is coming soon! :)

Asia Restaurant, Ritz Carlton

Last Saturday, me and my friends were holding our birthday dinner at Asia Restaurant, Ritz Carlton Hotel, Mega Kuningan. At first we planned to go to Satoo, Shangrilla, but unfortunately their buy 1 get 1 promo ended last month, so the choice was between Syailendra at JW Marriott or Asia at Ritz Carlton. I have been to Syailendra before, and so do several of my friends, but nobody ever tasted Asia, so we decided to try something new :)

When we got there, my first impression for the restaurant was big and spacious. I remembered when i went to Syailendra months ago, it was small and can't accommodate lots of people, that it put lots of table outside the restaurant. It really ruins the lobby interior, in my opinion. But Asia was sooo big that it still got some unreserved table inside. And they also got an upper area for party!

Like the other hotel's restaurant, Asia had a wide variety of foods and beverages. I started with roasted beef and chicken with mashed potatoes. I like the mashed potatoes soooo much, it had a soft texture and creamy taste, delicious!

After that i ate western food (mushroom chicken, black pepper beef, salmon, grilled chicken, and potato wedges), chinese food (pecking duck, chicken wing, and dim sum), hainamese chicken rice (i forgot to take pictures but it was yummy!), and pasta (carbonara rigatoni). My favourite were the siew mai in dimsum selection, the hainamese rice (yes, the rice, not the chicken), and the carbonara rigatoni.

After eating all the main course, of course it feels incomplete without desserts. I'm not a big fan of desserts though, i prefer savoury to sweets. But i took a plate of desserts, consists the fondue, blueberry cheesecake, lemon meringue, and i-dont-know-what-it-is, the one in the glass. The blueberry cheesecake and lemon meringue ended my dinner satisfyingly.

So, the dinner was great, and the price was okay (since we used bca's buy one get one promo, lol), and the friends were extraordinary! Here's our pictures that night :)

Kopitiam

Hello! Long time no blog! You know if i'm not writing, it means i already have another writing assignments. Haha.

So, now i'm actually in the middle of long holiday, so there's a lot of time to share with my family and friends. If i have nothing to do, usually i hang out with my mom, just take a walk for window shopping, or do the actual shopping. After a long walk, we usually find a place to sit and have snack (or maybe dinner), and Kopitiam is one of our favourite.

We usually go for Kopitiam with the red circle logo, they have their outlet at Mall Taman Anggrek, Central Park, Gandaria City, and more. My mother loves their Traditional Kaya Toast (22k). Their kaya jam is different from the others, its soft and delicious. And it comes with french fries, which i thought not a good combination. I just think they're not meant together, sweet bread with salty fries. But its ok, both of them are delicious when you eat it separately.

As for my dishes, i always order their Mamak Mee Goreng (36k). Its a fried noodles malaysian style, which used fried tofu and potato inside. Noddles with potato is a genius! I looove it.
But i got bored lately, so on my last visit, i ordered something else. It's Char Kuey Teow (36,5k), and it became my new favourite. The kuey teow are small and chewy, and the spice was just perfect. Definitely will order that again for my next visit. :)

Btw, on my last visit, my father joined us for dinner, and his dish was Nasi Lemak Chicken (33,5k). I tried it but i think it's just standard. Not bad, but not as good as my kuey teow.
